Why do we upgrade to Windows 11?

Currently, the computers at the University of Macau are still running the Windows 10 operating system, which will end to receive security updates, patches, and technical support as early as October 2026.

Microsoft plans to stop supporting Windows 10 according to the following timeframes:

Windows VersionEnd of life
Windows 10 LTSB (1607)October, 2026
Windows 10 LTSC (21H2)January, 2027
Windows 10 LTSC (1809)January, 2029

To avoid cyber-attacks and malware threats, Information and Communication Technology Office (ICTO) will pre-install the Windows 11 operating system on new computers. For other computers still in use, ICTO will gradually arrange for the update to Windows 11.

Windows 11 is an operating system designed by Microsoft for use on PCs and laptops. Windows 11 has a lot in common with Windows 10 but there are some new features, these include a new start menu and layout, flexible and customizable interface, performance improvements, and enhanced security.
